Keeping Momentum. And Keeping Momentum. And….

I can’t believe its Feb 1st already.  I’m not entirely sure what happened to January, but I know I’m exhausted. Bone tired. The tired that makes the other tireds feel bad.

It’s weeks like this I really have to step back and remember the Why… why do I get up at 4:45am to get in a work out and some journal time before the day runs away? Why do I press through morning and evening routines that include working on personal or client projects until 9 pm or later, taking the dog for a walk, doing crunches, bedtime stories… on either end of a day already full with “yes honey, you have to go to school today. No, I’m not going to tell you teacher your hand is broken so you don’t have to practice writing. Please, baby, eat your breakfast before the dog does…..” + Scholastic Book Orders, PTA volunteering, running a business, teaching a weekly drawing class for seniors, writing and illustrating my own books, laundry (so the correct color leotard is always available when needed, because DAMN), keeping the floor from getting too crunchy beneath our feet, and remembering things like ‘what letter is share day this week’ and what day to wear what uniform…  So Why do I kill myself cramming in education to every multitasking scenario I can via audio books, online news feeds and web courses… when all I want to do is crash in a corner, suck down a bottle of wine and cry?

Because I want more. Because I’m not where I could be. Because this isn’t all there is.

January disappeared for lots of people. Time passes. Life gets in the way. Shit happens. We are all tired. We are all overwhelmed. But I can look back at January and see weeks of improvement, of building, of growth. I’m tired AF. But I’m tired from kicking ass and making the hustle look damn good. I’m tired from accomplishing goals and constantly improving.

Yeah – Stop and smell the roses. Don’t burn yourself out. Yer gonna kill yerself.

I have this quote on my monitor scribbled on a ripped post-it “I am not concerned with the opinions of people I would never want to switch lives with”… take that in.

So where am I going with all of this? Humans are capable of amazing things. The more I learn, the more I know limits are bullshit. I’m taking a time out to give a shout out to some amazing leaders, teachers and coaches. If you want more, here’s a good start…..

Teachers that will seriously kick you in the head [Not for the weak-hearted]:

Gary John Bishop. I listen to his audio book UNFU*K YOURSELF over and over and over… huge. Seriously. If you still have procrastination problems or excuse fog after this guy tears you a new one, you are a truly lost cause :

“Life won’t stop for your pauses and procrastinations. It won’t stop for your confusion or fear. It will continue right along without you. Whether you play an active part or not, the show will go on.”Gary John Bishop, Unfu*k Yourself: Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Life

One of his most powerful messages (which I am going to completely botch) goes a bit like” You are not your words. You are not your thought. YOU ARE WHAT YOU DO.” As in- don’t talk about what you are going to do, you’re just wasting everyone’s time. And your best intentions won’t buy you a cup of coffee. Get off your ass already. Buying the tools doesn’t make you a mechanic.  Signing up for the gym doesn’t make you an athlete.  You have to make a decision to act and perform consistency and relentlessly. No excuses here. And DO THE AUDIOBOOK, his voice is awesome.

Mel Robbins. Bam. She is really amazing and totally walks the walk. This woman is like her own reality show. Between her kids photobombing her class videos, her half-awake early morning hotel commentary and the pure passion with which she states her insights- she takes Keeping’ It Real to the next level. TAKE HER CLASSES. I was in her fall Power of You class and I am still gaining insight and enjoying an active and thriving Facebook community. Follow her on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook and you literally walk with her behind the scenes from event to event all over the country, Her 5 Second Rule is 100% what gets me out of bed at 4:45 and her classes have completely changed my perspective on what is real and what is absolute head game bullshit.

Jen Sincero. Jen and I actually go waaaaay back. BFFs since birth. Well, we would be if we had ever met. ( Jen, call me!) Funny as hell and completely nuts (as in totally relatable), she dishes out her Badass series insights like a grenade launcher aimed point blank at your noggin.

It is totally true that “We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” – Albert Einstein

So what will you add to your world that will change your thinking? Where will you tweak your personal comfort zone? The above is a good place to start, but certainly not the only place.

I HATE getting up at 4:45. I hate always putting effort before comfort. But I hate feeling like my life is passing me by so much more. That is my Why.
